The Contemporary History Institute hosts Ludovic Hood discussing "Realignment in the Middle East: Spry Princes and the Abraham Accords - Reflections by a Practitioner" on Thursday, Sept. 8, at 4:45 p.m. in Bentley 124.
Ludovic Hood, an expert on Middle Eastern affairs, joined the U.S. foreign service in 2006, after five years with the United Nations Development Program in East Timor and New York. Since joining the State Department, he has served in Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, and France, as well as several headquarters positions in Washington. In 2019, he was assigned to serve as Special Advisor to the Vice President for the Middle East, working at the White House with Vice Presidents Pence and Harris.
Since May of 2021, Hood has served as the Senior Advisor to the Special Envoy to Monitor and Combat Antisemitism, Ambassador Deborah Lipstadt.
During his three foreign service assignments on the Arabian Peninsula and in his capacity as the Vice President’s Middle East advisor in 2019-2021, Hood was involved in regional developments and discussions culminating in the 2020 agreements between Israel and the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain, known as the Abraham Accords. In his CHI talk, Hood will discuss regional trends and leadership dynamics that contributed to the signing of the Abraham Accords and other ongoing, profound changes in the Middle East and North Africa.
