More about Dean Middleton's talk:

The Atlanta shooting in the United States of eight people, six of them Asian-American women, highlights the painful reality of rising anti-Asian violence around the world. This presentation examines the rise of Anti-Asian violence and hate globally—How has the coronavirus pandemic exacerbated Anti-Asian violence? We explore why educators should engage in conversation about Anti-Asian hate in our schools and university classrooms. We will also examine the historical context and connections between the Asian and Black communities in the United States—What are some lessons we can learn in our common quest to be anti-racist? What is anti-racism and what can we, in higher education, do to promote a more healthy anti-racist society? We will discuss some of the ways higher education has an opportunity to make a difference—now.
