Gymnast Simone Biles splendidly balances on the beam while eyeing for gold. Freestyle skier Birk Irving once again performed his death-defying trick. Skateboarder Shaun White shows a spontaneous downpour of emotions after finishing fourth during his fifth – and last – Olympics.

The beauty, the action, the drama of sports -- all captured by Getty Sports Photographer Maddie Meyer whose images are currently on display at the VisCom Gallery, Schoonover Center 140, Ohio University.  

Meyer, a VisCom alumna, is the Chief Photographer for Getty Images based in Boston, Massachusetts. Her love of sports photography stems from her time playing soccer growing up and working for the Athletics Department at Ohio University. After one game on the sideline at Peden Stadium, she was hooked. 

She graduated with a photojournalism degree in 2014 and held internships at The Washington Post and the Seattle Times. She was hired by Getty Images in 2015 and has been based in Boston ever since.
