Navigation on the Moon
NASA x IEEE
ARC 106 on 11/22 at 7PM
The Moon is again a top space exploration priority.
Navigation needs are no less demanding than in the Apollo era, but most missions will not be able to rely on human piloting or extensive ground-based tracking. Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) like GPS could provide a source of real-time position, navigation, and timing. Ben Ashman will describe the upcoming Lunar GNSS Receiver Experiment (LuGRE), expected to be the first use of GNSS at the Moon. Dr. Ashman is a navigation engineer at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center. He received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Ohio University and his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University.
