Ohio University faculty and staff are invited to join SOCHE for a virtual lunch and learn entitled “The Racial Bias We Have,” on Thursday, Nov. 2, beginning at 12 p.m. ET.

The session will be presented by Angelica Kennedy from Cincinnati State Technical & Community College.

Believe it or not, we all have biases. We use those biases to make important decisions every day. However, some individuals’ biases become stereotypes of certain groups of people that are outside of their own conscious awareness.

Having racial biases causes false conclusions and potentially misleading, harmful information. It is important to be aware of our behaviors, to reduce personal biases, and to promote a culture of inclusivity by considering alternative points of view. During this lunch and learn session, learn how to minimize racial biases to educate and support students for success.

Participants will gain information regarding:

  • The definitions of biases
  • How to identify their own biases and how personal biases are developed
  • Strategies to minimize racial biases
  • Strategies to educate and support students regarding racial biases for student success

Registration for this event will close on Monday, Oct. 30.  Click here to register now.
