Dr. Supeena Insee Adler, Associate Professor of Ethnomusicology UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music
Dr. Supeena Insee Adler will lead a music workshop in which participants will learn about traditional Thai music from northeast of Thailand. Ponglang music is lively, characterized by rhythmic melodies. This genre of music has been performed at local festivals, celebrations, and social gatherings for centuries. The Ponglang ensemble includes the centerpiece, the "Ponglang," a northeastern style folk xylophone, "Kaen," a bamboo free-reed mouth organ, "Pin," a Northeast style three string pluck lute, pan flute, gong, cymbals, gongs and a set of drums.
Note: The participants will be invited to performed together with Dr. Adler at Thai Night on the following day.

This event is presented by Asian Studies and the World Languages Program of the Center for International Studies in conjunction with the College of Fine Arts and the School of Interdisciplinary Arts.
