Description

You can disable app lock on the Microsoft Authenticator app so you don't have to enter your phone's passcode to open the app. This can save you time when authenticating with Azure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).

Environment

PC, Mac, mobile device

Disable app lock

If your phone is prompting you to enter your phone's passcode to open the Microsoft Authenticator app, you can disable app lock. Then, you'll be able to open the app without entering your phone's passcode.

Note: If your phone is locked, you will still need to enter your phone's passcode to unlock it, depending on your phone's settings. Disabling app lock prevents you from needing to enter your passcode twice (once to unlock your phone, and again to open the app).

  • Open the Microsoft Authenticator app
  • In the top left corner, select the  three horizontal lines next to  Authenticator
  • Select  Settings
  • Under  Security , toggle  App Lock

Settings menu of Microsoft Authenticator with a red circle around the app lock option

Outcome: App lock is  turned off. Now you can open the Microsoft Authenticator app without entering your phone's passcode.
