The administrator's function is to serve the Ohio University community by facilitating the process of education and by creating and maintaining an environment conducive to teaching, learning, research, and service. Administrators have a special duty to exemplify the best qualities of the University and to observe the highest standards of personal and professional conduct.
An administrator at Ohio University should:
- demonstrate the highest standards of personal integrity, truthfulness, honesty, and fortitude in meeting his/her professional responsibilities
- serve, in an accountable way, the interests of the University
- accord respect to self and others
- be honest in actions and words
- strive to give fair and just treatment to all
- accept intellectual and moral responsibility
- aspire to achieve quality
- refuse conflict or the appearance of conflict between personal and institutional interests
- support, implement, and promote merit employment and programs of affirmative action to assure equal employment opportunity
- encourage civil expression of ones own views and tolerance for the views of others
- exercise freedom of conscience and the right to refuse to engage in actions that violate the ethical principles contained in this code or provisions of law
