The mathematical statistics major gives students rigorous training in the methods, mathematical foundations, and applications of statistics.
It prepares graduates for careers in high-paying jobs as "mathematical statistician" in settings such as business, industrial, engineering, government and education.
Admission Requirements
This program has no requirements beyond University admission and transfer requirements. However, it is strongly recommended that students satisfy at least one of the following before entering the program:
- Have a least a 30 ACT Math score or a SAT Math score of 680 or above
- Have scored at least a 3 on the AP Calculus AB exam
- Have scored at least a 4 on the AP Statistics exam

Mathematical Statistics B.S. Courses & Curriculum
For a B.S. degree with a major in applied mathematics, a student must complete a total of at least 39 semester credit hours of mathematics courses at the 2000-level or above.
Students take Calculus I, II and III, plus Engineering Programming, Statistics and Probability courses, and Data Science. In addition, students take courses in Discrete Math, Linear Algebra, and electives.
