Broadly, the aim of the Teaching @ OHIO Faculty Certification Program is to develop, recognize and reward innovative, learner-centered, evidence-based, inclusive faculty competencies in teaching, learning and assessment. The Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment conceptualizes all its certifications as involving extended professional learning and four distinct components: knowledge acquisition, implementation, assessment and reflection. In other words, faculty earning a certification will learn, implement, assess and reflect on the certification topic. Ideally, faculty achievements will be disseminated through a variety of modalities and media.
All certifications are intended to advance teaching excellence at Ohio University through improved course instruction that directly improves student learning experiences and indirectly impacts student engagement and student success.
Because the certification involves implementation and assessment of a pedagogical practice, most certifications take six months to two semesters to complete. Full-time faculty receive stipends for their participation in and completion of certifications, and colleges and departments recognize the certification as evidence of faculty commitment to teaching excellence.
The knowledge acquisition component of most certifications is open to all instructors, administrators and staff.
