Omar A. Movil-Cabrera is a carbon utilization research engineer at Ohio University’s Institute for Sustainable Energy and the Environment (ISEE). Movil received his doctorate in chemical engineering from the University of Puerto Rico – Mayaguez, and his bachelor’s in chemical engineering from Universidad del Atlántico – Colombia. Prior to joining ISEE, Movil worked as a faculty at the Department of Chemical Engineering – Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico (2016 – 2024), and as a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer at the Russ College of Engineering – Ohio University (2014 – 2016).
At ISEE, Movil’s work is mostly focused on the development of a novel electrochemistry-enabled carbon dioxide mineralization process to generate carbon-negative alkaline carbonate materials from natural brines for building, construction, and related applications.
