During his Ph.D. study in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Ohio University, Kurt was doing research in surface modification and patterning using thiol-ene click chemistry. His dissertation title was "Chemically-Patterned Substrates via Sequential Photoinitiated Thiol-ene Reactions as Templates for the Deposition of Molecules and Materials on Surfaces."
