As part of their core requirements, Ohio University exercise physiology undergraduate students provide outreach to local hospitals, clinics, high schools and exercise facilities to gain hands-on experience. These include HeartWorks, a cardiopulmonary rehabilitation program at OhioHealth O'Bleness Hospital, as well as WellWorks, Ohio University's fitness and nutrition center.
Graduate students in Ohio University's exercise physiology-clinical program complete practicum experiences each semester at HeartWorks and other locations such as local hospitals, rehabilitation and exercise settings. Then the students complete a 600-hour internship in their final semester of the program at facilities nationwide, including Michigan Heart Hospital, the Cleveland Clinic's Cardiac Rehabilitation program, McConnell Heart Health Center (Columbus, Ohio), Miami Valley Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation (Dayton, Ohio), HealthWorks Fitness Center (El Dorado, Ark.), and many others.
