Each year, the Patton College of Education requests nominations for a series of awards to honor Distinguished Faculty and Staff in the categories below. Winners cannot be nominated again for 3 years after winning the award. You may nominate faculty and staff for one or more categories but do not need to nominate someone for all of the categories unless you wish to do so.
Distinguished Undergraduate Teaching Award
This award honors outstanding teaching by a Patton College of Education faculty member.
Nominations should include all of the following:
- Provide clear description or examples of the faculty member’s teaching of how they foster a welcoming and supportive environment where students feel valued, respected, and empowered to thrive.
- Describe the significance and impact of their teaching on student learning and success
- Explain how their teaching aligns with program, department, and/or PCOE mission, goals, and values
Distinguished Graduate Teaching Award
This award honors outstanding teaching by a Patton College of Education faculty member.
Nominations should include all of the following:
- Provide clear description or examples of the faculty member’s teaching of how they foster a welcoming and supportive environment where students feel valued, respected, and empowered to thrive.
- Describe the significance and impact of their teaching on student learning and success
- Explain how their teaching aligns with program, department, and/or PCOE mission, goals, and values
Distinguished Adjunct Teaching Award
This award honors outstanding teaching by a Patton College of Education faculty member.
Nominations should include all of the following:
- Provide clear description or examples of the faculty member’s teaching of how they foster a welcoming and supportive environment where students feel valued, respected, and empowered to thrive.
- Describe the significance and impact of their teaching on student learning and success
- Explain how their teaching aligns with program, department, and/or PCOE mission, goals, and values
Distinguished Child Development Center Teaching Award
This award is to honor outstanding work by a Child Development Center Teacher.
Nominations should include all of the following:
- Provide clear description or examples of how the Child Development Center teacher contributes to the classroom community and the CDC that fosters a welcoming and supportive environment where children, families, and colleagues feel valued, respected, and empowered to thrive.
- Describe the significance and impact of their work
- Explain how their work connects to families, teacher candidates, and any other relevant details
Distinguished Faculty Research and Creative Activity Award
This award honors significant research and/or creative activity conducted by a faculty member within the past three years. Research/creative activity may be theoretical, conceptual, or applied.
Nominations should include all of the following:
- Provide clear description or examples of the faculty’s research and creative activities
- Describe the significance and impact of the research and creative activities to the nominee’s respective field
- Explain how the research enhances OHIO status as an R1 institution or for the communities we serve.
NOTE: Please do not just copy and paste a portion of the nominee's CV into this submission space. Instead, please use narrative form to tell us about the nominee.
Distinguished Faculty Mentorship Award
This award is to honor outstanding mentoring of PCOE colleagues, students (undergraduate or graduate), and alumni by a faculty member in the Patton College of Education. Outstanding mentoring goes beyond the standard requirements and expectations that go with being a faculty member such as teaching, advising, and serving on non-thesis projects, thesis, or dissertation committees.
Nominations should include all of the following:
- Provide clear description or examples of the mentorship
- Describe the significance and impact of the mentorship
- Explain how the mentorship goes beyond typical expectations of the faculty member’s role
Distinguished Outreach Award
This award is to honor outstanding professional outreach by a Patton College of Education faculty, staff, or administrator. Outreach should be to the fields related to the departments and programs within the college, and for the contributions to the broader university and community.
Nominations should include all of the following:
- Provide clear description or examples of the outreach work and how it serves to foster a welcoming and supportive environment where members feel valued, respected, and empowered to thrive.
- Describe the significance and impact of the outreach work
- Explain the connection between the PCOE departments and programming
- Discuss how the outreach work contributes to the broader community outside of the Patton College
Outstanding Administrative Staff Award
This award is to honor and acknowledge exemplary contributions by an Administrator in the Patton College of Education.
Nominations should include all of the following:
- Provide clear description or examples of how the administrative staff member contributes to the Patton College and fosters a welcoming and supportive environment where students and colleagues feel valued, respected, and empowered to thrive
- Describe the significance and impact of their work.
- Provide an example of how they demonstrated an ability to be proactive and innovative in professional performance
Outstanding Classified Staff Award

This award is to honor and acknowledge exemplary contributions by a classified staff member in the Patton College of Education.
Nominations should include all of the following:
- Provide clear description or examples of how the staff member contributes to the Patton College and fosters a welcoming and supportive environment where students and/or colleagues feel valued, respected, and empowered to thrive
- Describe the significance and impact of their work
Margaret Thompson Memorial Award
The Margaret Thompson Memorial Award is generated from an endowed fund. This award recognizes outstanding service provided by a classified staff member in The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education. It focuses on dedication and exceptional service to The Patton College in the classified staff member's area of expertise. An eligible nominee is any classified staff member who has served The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education for at least five (5) years.
