Cybersecurity Operations

In today's ever-evolving digital landscape, protecting information and networking technology from nefarious threat actors is essential to ensure the continuity of business, governmental and social activities. OHIO's J. Warren McClure School of Emerging Communication Technologies blends theoretical study and practical experience to prepare you for a challenging and rewarding job in the cybersecurity field.

All Information and Telecommunication Systems (ITS) majors earn a business minor, learn how to automate systems with coding and scripting, and learn the basics of statistics and public speaking. Through the ITS Cybersecurity Operations track, you'll gain skills in cybersecurity operations, data and information networks and project management. Furthermore, as part of our collaboration with the College of Business, you'll acquire skills in systems analysis, cybersecurity for business and business analytics.

  • 6 introductory core classes, two of which will provide you with cybersecurity strategic decision making and business project operations.
  • 4 out of 5 specialized cybersecurity classes covering topics such as privacy.
  • 3 ITS electives in topics such as software-defined systems, wireless networks, Internet of things (IoT) or cloud engineering.
  • 5 course areas of concentration (AoC) courses offered as part of our collaboration in cybersecurity with the College of Business. Students in the Cybersecurity Operations track may also consider adding a Business Analytics minor by using the AoC courses. This minor provides a solid understanding of data analytics and predictive and prescriptive analytics, which are an ideal complement to business cybersecurity.

As a Cybersecurity Operations student, you'll also complete a sequence of non-ITS classes, which will allow you to earn a Business Minor and gain foundational expertise in coding, statistics, economics and public speaking.
