Paleontology Minor

The Paleontology minor provides students with a broad foundation in the study of ancient life, sedimentary systems, and the fossil record. Designed for non-geology majors, this program supports students pursuing careers or graduate study in paleontology, science education, or museum and natural history fields. Students will gain practical knowledge in fossil interpretation, geological time, and environmental change through Earth’s history.

Admissions Requirements

There are no additional admission requirements beyond Ohio University’s general admission process. The minor is open to all students, including those changing programs or transferring from another institution.

Curriculum

The Paleontology minor requires a minimum of 19 credit hours. Coursework includes introductory geology, historical geology, and core paleontology topics. Students also choose from a range of electives covering subjects such as dinosaurs, stratigraphy, paleoecology, and Earth systems evolution. The program is designed to provide a well-rounded understanding of paleontological methods and applications.
