Research Interests:

Dr. Young’s research investigates how social (e.g., social identity, social integration into groups) and affective (e.g., emotion regulation, emotion beliefs) processes relate to mental health and well-being across and within diverse populations. Dr. Young’s research also aims to understand how social and affective processes promote as well as hinder a person’s sense of belonging and inclusion across different contexts such as at college universities (e.g., in STEM fields) as well as among their families, friends, and ethnic/cultural communities. A particular goal of Dr. Young is to use this research to inform how to build inclusive environments in which people from all backgrounds are mental healthy and thrive. 

Dr. Young is currently accepting new Ph.D. students.
