The overarching goal in my lab’s research is to assess how plant ecophysiological responses to environmental stressors affect plant performance or fitness. We use observational, experimental and modeling approaches to address key biological questions about ecophysiological, genetic, and evolutionary mechanisms that drive individuals and population level processes. In the past I have addressed questions at scales ranging from biochemical to population and community level processes.Within this framework, my research has evaluated (1) the roles that plant hybridization and evolution play in ecophysiological divergence of drought tolerance traits in sunflowers, (2) the genotypic and phenotypic responses of invasive plant populations to founding events, and (3) how the response of C3 photosynthesis to climate change alters plant productivity and fitness.
