Earn Your Master's Degree and Gain a Teaching License in Just 1 Year!
Have you always wanted to be an art teacher or recently imagined a career path in art education? The Ohio University Patton College of Education and School of Art + Design have an exciting new 4+1 degree track in Art Education for students interested in this career path. This program is a great way for students to earn a bachelor’s degree in Art and a master’s degree, with a Multi-Age Visual Arts License, in a total of five years!
How Does This Work?
Here’s how it works: Students complete a traditional, four-year undergraduate studio art program (BA or BFA), and then pursue a master’s program (M.Ed.) in the fifth (+1) year. At the end, you will receive a Masters of Education degree with a Multi-Age Visual Arts License, and be eligible to apply for and teach Art, grades Pre-K-12.
This is an intensive and hands-on program. Once accepted as a graduate student, you will work closely with a Patton College of Education advisor, learn how to develop lesson plans and strategies for content delivery, complete your student teaching (2-days a week in the fall, full-time in the spring), and receive expert guidance that will enable a successful outcome, including licensure!
Opportunities Upon Graduation
Educators who understand the challenges and opportunities facing today’s students are in high demand. An M.Ed. can open many doors and, with this specialization, several different career options. In addition to teaching in the K-12 education system, career opportunities such as Educational Coordinator, Director of Museum Education, Corporate Trainer, Educational Consultant, Curriculum Developer/Instruction Specialist, Career counselor, Principal, and Administrator and more.
