    Copyright Information

    Registering a copyright is recommended if a student is filing a patent, writing a book, publishing articles, or if an advisor recommends it. A registered copyright creates a public record of ownership and is necessary for future legal action. To register your copyright, you need the final manuscript in PDF file format and then go to http://www.copyright.gov/forms/ to complete the online form, pay the $35 fee, and upload your final manuscript in PDF file format.     Required Copyright Line on Title Page

    A separate copyright page is no longer required in Ohio University manuscripts. Since theses and dissertations are considered copyrighted once they are in tangible form, all Ohio University theses and dissertations now include the following copyright line at the bottom of the title page, centered and double spaced below the graduation month and year: 

    © Graduation Year First M. Last. All Rights Reserved. 

    Example:         © 2009 Susan Berry. All Rights Reserved.

    All forms may be submitted electronically to tad@ohio.edu  or dropped off at the front desk of the Graduate College, Grosvenor Hall, 102.

    Templates

    TAD Services strongly recommends using the template designed for your college, as the minimum requirements for publication have already been formatted correctly in the document. Using the template will save you hours in the formatting process.

    Instructions and helpful formatting tips can be found in the sample chapters of each document. Read the instructions in the yellow box on page 1 to begin.

    Current Templates for PC & Mac

    *TAD Services recommends updating to the latest version of MS Word, which is available for free to all Ohio University students.

    LaTeX Template

    LaTeX Guide [PDF]  The guide can be used as a "how-to" for using the "Ohio-etd" class file. We recommend reading this first.

    LaTeX Template [.zip]  This folder contains the template file .tex and the Class file .cls.

    This template was not created by a TAD Services staff member. Therefore we cannot provide technical assistance as to its use. Please consult a textbook or contact your department for further assistance.
