iCUE Spotlight: Dec. 4-10, 2017

It's week 15 and we're racing toward the end of fall semester! There's just one more week of classes, Bobcats - you can do it! Are you feeling overwhelmed by the looming start of finals? Don't worry because Alden Library has got you covered. Read on for more details on some great events taking place during this last week of classes:

#FinalsByAlden is a series of activities Alden Library is sponsoring to help make the end of the semester a little less stressful. This week brings:

  • Long Night Against Procrastination (Monday, Dec. 4, 6-10 p.m., Alden Library): All OHIO students are invited to join Alden Library and the Graduate Writing and Research Center for a writing marathon to work on your end-of-semester writing projects. There will be free walk-in tutoring, librarian support, and snacks. Come for all or part of the evening - it's your chance to meet with a librarian or writing tutor about that final paper you're working on. Burnt out and just need a break? Feel free to stop by for free coffee and snacks. Meet up just outside the Academic Advancement Center on the second floor!
  • Therapy Pet Visit (Tuesday, Dec. 5, 5:30-7:30 p.m., Alden Library): Missing your pets back home? Stressed beyond belief? Need some snuggles from a sweet pup? Stop by the 4th floor of Alden Library to visit with the 4-H PetPals. 4-H members will be bringing their trained service animals to keep you company!
  • Button Making Craft Break (Wednesday, Dec. 6, 1-3 p.m., Alden Library): Need to take a break from hitting the books? Bring in cool images from old magazines or explore some of our pre-printed design materials from Special Collections and Digital Initiatives. Once you've chosen a design, we'll help you create a 2-inch button.

Broadway for the Holidays (Monday, Dec. 4, 7:30 p.m., Templeton-Blackburn Alumni Memorial Auditorium): Join Broadway's Mary Michael Patterson ( Phantom of the Opera ), Claybourne Elder ( Sunday in the Park with George ), and Hilary Morrow ( Birdland Jazz Club ) as they sing with the Ohio University Symphony Orchestra and Chorus under the direction of Maestro Luke Frazier (OHIO MM '09) for an evening of holiday hits that make the season bright. This event celebrates the conclusion of the Ohio University School of Music's 100th Anniversary ! Tickets: Student: $8, Senior: $13, General: $15.

Science Cafe: Before Lions Were King (Wednesday, Dec. 6, 5-6 p.m., The Front Room Campus Coffeehouse, Baker University Center fourth floor): Join Nancy Stevens, professor of biomedical sciences, and Matthew Borths, NSF postdoctoral fellow, for the Science Cafe, "Before Lions Were King: Discovering Africa's First Meat-Eaters." The first 50 attendees get free coffee and be sure to ask questions for a chance to win a t-shirt!

Failure: A Love Story (opens Wednesday, Dec. 6, 8 p.m., Forum Theater, RTVC Building): With a whimsical chorus of talking snakes, dogs, parakeets and clocks, we follow the story of Nelly, Jenny June and Gerty as they live above the family clock repair shop until their time unexpectedly runs out. 'Failure' is a magical, musical fable where the power of love is far greater than any individual's failures. The show is FREE and open to the public, and runs Dec. 6-8 at 8 p.m., and Dec. 9 at 7 p.m.
