Poets & Quants, a leading source of graduate business education information, has ranked Ohio University’s Online MBA program No. 15 in the United States in its first ranking of online MBA programs .
After collecting data from universities and alumni across the nation, P&Q considered and placed equal weight on three primary factors to compile its list of 25 programs: admission standards, the MBA experience, and career outcomes. OHIO’s Online MBA placed sixth for the MBA experience. OHIO was the only school in the state to be ranked.
“When we started this program in 2012, we knew we had to deliver an extraordinary experience that helps professionals learn the skills to advance their careers, all while providing exceptional service and convenience that busy professionals need,” said Hugh Sherman, dean of OHIO’s College of Business. “After just five years, we now have nearly 600 students enrolled and I believe that speaks to the quality of our academics and how well we deliver this high-caliber program.”
OHIO’s Online MBA curriculum covers a comprehensive range of management topics and also offers concentrations in finance, health care, executive management, and business analytics. Classes are delivered 100 percent online, but also offers students the opportunity to visit Ohio University’s Athens Campus for an annual Leadership Development Program that allows students to participate in leadership assessments, in-depth breakout sessions, and networking opportunities.
“Ohio University has been a leader in online and distance education for several years,” said M. Duane Nellis, president of Ohio University. “The College of Business at Ohio University has built an outstanding experience for our Online MBA students that leverages the best of online learning. It’s no wonder 90 percent of OHIO Online MBA students say their performance has improved as a result of this program and 80 percent say it has helped their ability to advance in their career.”
This isn’t the first accolade that the AACSB-accredited program has received. The Online MBA has also been recognized by The Princeton Review for professor accessibility, by Forbes for best MBA value, and by U.S. News & World Report for student engagement, faculty credentials, technology support and peer reputation, among other criteria.
According to Poets & Quants, Ohio University was the second most highly recommended program by alumni. On a scale of one to 10, with 10 representing the most enthusiastic endorsement of a program, Ohio University’s Online MBA received a 9.79. The program was also positioned as the ninth most affordable of the programs ranked.
Shelli Sedlak, an OHIO Online MBA student pursuing a concentration in executive management, says she’s able to apply lessons from her classes to her work at a division of GE in Cleveland, Ohio. “I spent the majority of my career as an engineer and had to learn the business side out in the field. I’ve pretty much used all of the information from each class so far. In my current role I’m in a lot of high-level discussions with customers who are C-suite or executive level. Being able to go beyond just talking about engineering to more broad conversations has been impactful. The technology we talk about is now an economic conversation, and to be able to discuss how technology and economics tie together has been very powerful.”
In addition to OHIO’s Online MBA, the College of Business has a Professional MBA program located in Dublin, Ohio, a One-Year MBA program in Athens, Ohio, and several other additional graduate business programs that are offered in online, hybrid, and on-campus formats.
