Ohio University has canceled all summer study abroad programs and travel experiences as the global COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread.
While these programs do not begin in the upcoming months, Ohio University is making the decision based on guidance from public health officials that suggest that it is unlikely that global travel warnings will decrease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a Level 2 global travel alert , as well as a Warning Level 3 for most of Europe and other countries outside of Europe. The U.S. Department of State also issued a Global Level 3 Health Advisory “ Reconsider Travel .”
While this was a difficult decision, it’s not possible to accurately predict which countries will eventually have outbreaks. Ohio University values the safety and well-being of its students above all else, and those values led to this decision.
The Office of Global Opportunities has created a frequently-asked questions page to assist those who had summer travel plans. Ohio University previously announced its restriction on travel to include all University-sponsored travel.
