Ohio University was recently named to the prestigious Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society (PTK) 2020 Transfer Honor Roll, which recognizes the dynamic pathways they have created to support transfer students. Only 122 institutions were recognized nationwide.
PTK is the international honor society of two-year colleges and academic programs, particularly state universities and community colleges. PTK’s Transfer Honor Roll recognizes four-year colleges and universities that have developed transfer pathways that lead to excellence and success among community college transfer students.
“The Transfer Honor Roll reflects the growing importance of recognizing and responding to the needs of transfer students,” Phi Theta Kappa President and CEO Dr. Lynn Tincher-Ladner said. “This award is given to four-year colleges and universities with proven outcomes for transfer success. They are the best at providing a supportive and smooth transition from community college—equating to increased rates of bachelor’s degree attainment for transfer students.”
Schools selected for the honor roll were evaluated based on engagement, collaboration, impact and achievements related to the transfer of community college students as well as partnerships, support, admissions outreach, and the availability of scholarships and financial aid. Additional institutions named to the list include Rutgers, Texas Tech University, and Arizona State University.
“We have a long history of serving transfer students and creating pathways that allow for greater access to the Ohio University experience,” said Robert Callahan, acting senior director, recruitment and partnerships in Undergraduate Admissions. “We are beyond thrilled to be named to the 2020 Transfer Honor Roll by PTK and for the University community to be recognized for all of their efforts.”
Phi Theta Kappa is the oldest, largest and most prestigious honor society recognizing students pursuing two-year degrees. It is made up of more than 3.5 million members and nearly 1,300 chapters in 11 nations.
“Supporting students through the transfer process is an area of focus as we work with our community college partners and other universities around the state to ensure students complete their educational goals,” said OHIO Executive Vice President and Provost Elizabeth Sayrs. “Admitting and supporting transfer students is a concerted team effort at Ohio University. I am proud to see our colleges' and admission team's hard work receive national recognition. We are honored by this recognition from Phi Theta Kappa. ”
