Ohio University has approved a new Student Travel Policy , designed to manage University-affiliated student travel and support the safety of our student travelers.
This policy defines student travel as taking place over 100 miles from the student’s campus of departure, including an overnight stay, and/or taking place outside the state of Ohio. For eCampus students, their campus of departure is defined as their home. For medical students on clinical rotation, their campus of departure is defined as the site of their clinical rotation.
University-related activities include those undertaken for University credit, field research, fulfilling a degree requirement, or supported by University funding, among other categories. For more information about the requirements and registration process, please visit www.ohio.edu/goglobal/travel .
“The travel registration at the heart of this policy will provide a focused view of where Ohio University students are and what types of activities they are pursuing. This will allow the University to better support our students before and during their travel,” Office of Global Opportunities (OGO) Director Dr. Catherine Marshall said. “Registered students will receive useful predeparture information as well as security updates during their trip. Students will also have quicker access to the University in case of emergency. This also gives students participating in international travel additional access to international health insurance coverage.”
While University travel restrictions are currently in place, some University-related student travel may be permitted with prior approval.
- If a student is traveling internationally, they must seek approval through the Study Away Risk Assessment Committee .
- If a student is traveling domestically, they should seek approval from their college.
- If a student is completing field research or creative activity, they should visit the following website to begin the approval process: https://www.ohio.edu/research/research-restart .
After receiving the appropriate approval, students would then register their approved travel per policy 22.001
