Ohio University’s First-Year and Student Transitions Office is recruiting orientation leaders to support undergraduate orientation programs.
OHIO depends on student orientation leaders to help welcome and guide incoming students and their families and guests through orientation. Through these roles, students develop valuable leadership and organizational skills, support incoming students as they transition to college life, and deepen their connections on campus.
Each year Ohio University welcomes several thousand new students to the Bobcat family at Bobcat Student Orientation (BSO) where incoming students get connected with campus resources, register for classes, and get ready to begin their first semester at OHIO.
Senior Ceci Rockwell has served as a learning community leader coordinator as well as an orientation leader and encourages other students to apply to serve in these leadership roles.
“Being in a leadership role within orientation has been one of the best experiences I have had here at OHIO,” Rockwell said. “Getting to see students excited to start their journeys at OHIO and being a part of their transition to college is so rewarding. I’m thankful for the opportunity to support new Bobcats.”
“Orientation leaders play an important role in helping students transition successfully to Ohio University,” said Director of Undergraduate Orientation Programs Vincent Prior. “During BSO programs, orientation leaders help new students by serving as peer educators and mentors. They provide the student perspective that faculty and staff are not able to provide.”
Orientation leaders develop lifelong friendships while changing the lives of incoming students at Ohio University. Working with new friends creates a strong team-orientated environment and even enhances students’ professional skills. As orientation leaders, students build relationships, improve public speaking skills, and serve as campus leaders.
Orientation leader applications are due Oct. 16. All current Ohio University students who are returning next fall are eligible to apply.
