The Ohio University Dance Team hosted a dance clinic for more than 50 aspiring members on Feb. 25 and 26. Individuals from dance studios and programs from across Ohio were invited to learn current sideline routines, connect with fellow dancers, and tour the OHIO campus.
In addition, high school seniors admitted to OHIO who met the technical and performance requirements were awarded advancement to the second round of official team tryouts that will be held on the Athens Campus on April 22-23.
Dr. Andrew Pueschel, director of Ohio University Dance Team, could not have been more thrilled with the results of the clinic.
“When we went to our first competition in 2019, our original goal was to place OHIO ‘on the map’ for collegiate dance teams,” says Pueschel. “Not only have we achieved national recognition on the competition floor, but the popularity of this recruitment clinic has proven that our brand is now strong enough to shine the spotlight on OHIO through the eyes of future dancing Bobcats.”
With a current average GPA of 3.6, the Ohio University Dance Team successfully balances its academic, creative, and leadership responsibilities and the public is noticing.
“The fact that dancers are now choosing to attend OHIO because of their involvement with the Ohio University Dance Team is a testament to the quality and influence we have on the academic, professional, and creative growth and development of our members as well as the positive impact we have on the OHIO and Athens community,” said current captain Olivia Balawender.
The Ohio University Dance Team will travel April 6-9, to Orlando, Florida to compete at the 2023 Collegiate Dance Team Nationals (produced by Dance Team Union). Last year the team advanced to the overall finals and placed in the top 10 in the Jazz Division.
Auditions for the 2023/24 season are open to all that are interested and will take place April 22 and 23. For more information on the Ohio University Dance Team, please go to http://bobcats-danceteam.wixsite.com/ohiouniversity-dance .
