OHIO launches the Thriving in Academy Workshop Series

In Spring 2024, Ohio University will offer the Thriving in Academy Workshop Series for early career OHIO faculty. The goal of the workshop series is to assist faculty success during their early career. Topics will include research productivity, healthy relationships, time management and maintaining a proper work-life balance.

The workshop series is sponsored by the Office of the Provost and will be led by the 2023-24 OHIO MAC ALDP Leadership Fellows : Sherleena Buchman, associate professor of nursing; Janet Simon, associate professor of athletic training; Greg Springer, professor of geological sciences; and Yuchun Zhou, associate professor of educational studies.

“Thriving in the Academy is a great opportunity for faculty who are looking for a meaningful way to improve their individual skill set and build their toolbox,” Buchman said

The workshop series includes five, 80-minute workshop sessions. Each session is focused on one or two skills from the National Center for Faculty Development & Diversity Core Curriculum . The five workshops will be held February through April 2024 on select Thursdays from 12:30 – 1:50  p.m. The workshops will be delivered in person on the Athens campus.

"We are excited to help our colleagues invest in their academic journey with the Thriving in Academy Workshop Series. The series serves as a practical guide to success as we explore key skills such as developing daily writing practices, time management and fostering a balanced professional and personal life," Simon explained.

All full-time early career faculty, including those new to OHIO or who have been in their present position for five or fewer years, are welcome to join the workshop series. Participants who complete at least four of the five workshops will receive a Certificate of Completion and a letter from Katie Hartman, vice provost for faculty development.

To sign-up for the workshop series, please complete the online registration form no later than Jan. 26, 2024. Please contact Hartman at hartmank@ohio.edu with questions.
