When you’ve watched WOUB TV or listened to WOUB radio lately, you may have heard a voice on promotions that you recognized. Brian Unger , who graduated from Ohio University in 1987, is a well-known producer, actor, host and comedian. He recently worked with WOUB to record his voice for use in WOUB TV promotions and on two new WOUB brand television and radio spots.
Unger worked both on the air and behind the scenes at WOUB in radio, TV and traffic. After graduation, Unger worked on several national news programs, but eventually moved into the entertainment side of the media industry. He served as a correspondent and producer for The Daily Show and that started his career down a different path. He worked as a satirical commentator on NPR’s Day to Day . Unger’s other credits include: It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia , Yellowstone , Some Assembly Required , and the History Channel’s How the States Got Their Shapes .
“I’m honored that WOUB asked me to do this,” said Unger. “With today’s technology, it’s very easy for me to use a microphone set up in my home, connect via the internet to WOUB and read the scripts they send me. I’m happy to do this for WOUB and give back in this way to the place that gave me my start.”
Unger’s voice can now be heard at the end of program promotions on WOUB TV telling viewers what day and time the program will air. His voice is also used in two new TV and radio spots that tell the story of WOUB’s importance and service to the region.
“We are thrilled that Brian shared his time and talent to give back to WOUB,” said WOUB Community Engagement and Membership Manager Cheri Russo. “He has an amazing voice, which would be great for this even if he wasn’t someone who worked at WOUB as a student. But that history makes his voice absolutely perfect to represent and tell the story of WOUB Public Media.”
