Introduce yourself
Hi, my name is Alyssa Manning. I'm a senior studying Global Studies, War and Peace, and Political Science, and I'm from Mentor, Ohio. I'll be completing my degree in May of 2024.
What projects have you engaged with as a Voinovich Scholar?
So, I work with the Mayors’ Partnership for Progress. I get to prepare monthly meeting materials for the meetings all the mayors attend. I get to meet a new mayor every month and create a spotlight on the initiatives that they're taking on in their municipalities; I also get to research public policy issues.
Why do you feel it's important for OHIO students to participate in public service?
It's important for students to engage in public service to foster a sense of civic responsibility and to work to improve the communities that we belong to. It's also important for OHIO students to engage with the Appalachian community to bring fresh perspectives to issues the community is facing.
How has the Voinovich Scholars program supported your personal and professional growth?
The Voinovich Undergraduate Scholars Program helps to promote personal and professional growth by giving opportunities to work on hands-on projects in the community and learn from experts in the areas that you're studying.
What are your future plans after graduation?
After graduation, I plan to stay and complete a Master's in Public Administration and continue my role with the Mayor’s Partnership for Progress.
