Prepare for fall semester with Canvas workshops on May 8-9

Ohio University will be hosting several workshops for instructors in the coming weeks to support the transition to Canvas, OHIO’s new preferred learning management system.

Representatives from Canvas will be leading various workshops May 8-9, 2024. Participants can attend remotely or onsite at the Athens campus in Walter Hall 253, and sessions will be recorded for later access.

Various workshops will be available for both faculty and sub-account administrators. Workshops topics were selected based on faculty feedback and educational interests. Please note, GivePulse requires your OHIO email and password to log in

To view full session details or to register for the trainings, visit the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Assessment’s event registration webpage. In order to fully participate in the trainings, please request a manually created course when you register so you have a “test” course you can use during the session.

Additionally, the Office of Instructional Design offers departmental and group workshops to support instructors migrating their courses to Canvas.

If you’d like to get started with Canvas on your own

  1. Request a  manually created course. These courses are not term-based and can be used to learn how to use Canvas, test out its features, and build content that can be copied to your future courses. You can request up to 5 manually created courses per ticket.  
  2. Log in to Canvas at canvas.ohio.edu. 
  3. Review the OHIO course templates and apply one to your course using Canvas Commons. 
  4. Build new material, move content from Blackboard , and set up your Canvas Course Syllabus. The best way to learn this new system is to experiment with your manually created course. 
  5. Ask for help. 24/7 support is available within Canvas. In the global navigation menu on the left, select “Get Help” for help via phone or chat.
