The Ridges extends Ohio University’s residential campus in Athens across the Hocking River. The University utilizes various spaces at The Ridges to serve its mission with a focus on experiential learning, research and community outreach and service.

Ohio University’s Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service is a leader among public service schools, working in public-private partnerships to find solutions to challenges facing communities, the economy and the environment.

Ridges Land Lab
The Ridges Land Lab is a topographically and biologically diverse natural area for instruction and research in field biology, environmental geography and ecosystem ecology.
Currently, a tall-grass prairie restoration project is under way around Radar Hill to increase biodiversity of rare species once native to this area.

Compost Facility
Ohio University is home to the largest in-vessel composting system at any college or university in the nation — our facility currently produces Class II Compost and Class IV Compost.
The University elected to employ this type of in-vessel composting system for management of all its food waste.

Ohio University Observatory
Ohio University's campus observatory is used for undergraduate teaching and public outreach, as well as public telescope nights for the Athens community. Astrophysical Institute faculty members sponsor programming at the observatory.

Chaddock + Morrow College of Fine Arts
The Chaddock + Morrow College of Fine Arts utilizes space at the ridges for graduate art studios. Their graduate students have dedicated spaces available to them to work on their artwork.

The Edison Biotechnology Institute is a research institute whose interdisciplinary and entrepreneurial environment houses the development of new technology — and the transfer of that technology to the private sector to create companies, jobs and investment in Ohio.

Child Developent CenterOne of the only centers in the area that serves children ages six weeks to five years, the CDC serves as a model for best practices in Southeastern Ohio, giving students hands-on experience while also benefitting the local community.

Kennedy Museum of ArtThe Kennedy Museum features national and international exhibitions, collection-based research, and diverse formal and informal learning opportunities.

OHIO Museum ComplexThe Museum Complex expands upon the Kennedy Museum of Art, connecting science and the environment to everyday life. Transdisciplinary exhibits are dedicated to interactive exploration of contemporary issues.
