What do you do?I manage small-to-medium business telecommunication services. Telecommunication includes TV, internet and phones while providing IT solutions to help small businesses thrive.
What made you come to Ohio University? When I visited Ohio University, I fell in love with the campus, and it felt like home. It has been the best decision that I’ve made thus far.
Were there other places you considered? Any metros? What made this rural location more attractive?I applied to seven universities and was accepted to all seven schools. The schools varied from rural to urban. I wasn't necessarily keen on the rural setting, but Ohio University sold itself to me.
How did the Scripps College of Communication equip you with the skills you needed to succeed? The Scripps College of Communication has given me the tools to effectively communicate with others and to know when to change my communication style to better suit the needs of the situation. I have used these skills and tools within each of my internships which has led to my success.
What about your experiences do you think will prove to be memorable?I think it is the people that make the experiences so memorable. The sense of community at Ohio University is amazing! Everyone wants to be there and to help each other succeed. You tend not to find that at urban or bigger schools, but, at Ohio University, we're all one big family.
If you could focus on one more skill at Scripps, what class would you attend or skill would you learn and why?I would love to focus on how to effectively communicate when race becomes an issue. Being an African American woman, I believe it is important to learn how to communicate with people who don't look like you and even more importantly how to accept and listen.
