Dalton Teasley came to Ohio University in 2018, and is graduating this spring from the School of Media Arts and Studies (MDIA) with a major the music production and recording industry (MPRI) program, where he has learned to use the recording studio and mixing and mastering studio, and how to edit audio professionally. Brick City Records, Animation Club, and freelance graphic design are just some of his favorite activities.

Describe your major.

I’ve been studying music production since I got to OU! I’ve worked in the studios, done editing, mixing, and mastering. Right now, I’m focusing on marketing and publicity at Ohio University’s Brick City Records. We’ve got four artists signed who will all be releasing new music during the next month. I designed most of the album art.

What other academic programs did you pursue?

My minor is in studio art, but I focus on photography. I’ve been through digital and film photo classes, but right now I’m focusing on working with medium and large format cameras.

Why did you choose MDIA?

I knew I wanted to go into the School of Media Arts and Studies because I wanted to study music production, and Ohio University’s media program has one of the highest reputations for studying music production.

What activities do you participate in at OHIO?

Currently, I’m a member of Brick City Records where I create posters, album art, photoshoots, and marketing plans for our four signed artists: Eleanor Dakota, Rent Free, Fullsend, and Jay Kuzzo (go check them out). I’m also a member of the Ohio University Animation Club (OUAC) where I’ve recorded audio for various short films and projects.

What is your favorite memory from the MDIA school?

My favorite memory so far was going to SXSW. I had an amazing time, met so many new people, and got to do things I never would’ve imagined possible.

How has MDIA prepared you for your future career?

The 2022 SXSW trip was the most beneficial thing for my career, so far. I got to meet people at different specific companies like Interscope Records, Pandora/SiriusXM, and Dialogue Management. Some of these people gave me specific advice on creating content, branding my personality, and how to jumpstart my career in the music industry.

What do you hope to do after graduation?

After graduation, I hope to either work in the music industry or use my marketing and media skills to create my own content.
