The School of Visual Communication offers two programs of study: the Master of Arts (MA) degreewith a specialization in one of four visual communication tracks, as well as a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in Communication Media Arts.
Our students go on to be leaders in the profession in a variety of communication outlets, working as photojournalists, photo editors, creative directors, designers, interactive designers, multimedia producers and video producers, winning awards that include numerous Pulitzer Prizes.
The heart of VisCom is storytelling in various mediums, and students will push their skills to the next level through advanced coursework, interacting with our professional faculty and collaborating with award-winning alumni and students.
M.A. Program: The Four Tracks
The School of Visual Communication offers an interdisciplinary visual communication degree in four specialized sequences.
Photojournalism
The photojournalism sequence focuses on photographing people and places within the community, with a focus on a documentary style of storytelling.
Commercial Photography
Commercial photography students work in the studio and on location to create images that showcase fashion, still life, portraiture and architecture.
Information Graphics
& Interactive Design
This design track brings together the professional practice of designing infographics, user experience and web design to tell stories across multiple platforms.
Visual Communication
Management
The management track offers students the opportunity to adapt courses to fit their goals in audio/video storytelling, management, design, interactive, photography, or picture editing.
M.F.A.: Communication Media Arts
In a collaborative program between the School of Visual Communication, the School of Media Arts and Studies, and the School of Emerging Communication Technologies, we offer a terminal MFA degree in the interdisciplinary studies offered by all of our schools.
