Changing Your OHIO Account Password

Description

If you have have responded to a malicious email , or need to change your OHIO account password, follow the steps below. Either method provides a self-service password change, which allows you to change your password without service desk involvement.

There are two methods to change your password:

  1. Through your OHIO University Account , or account.ohio.edu .

OR

  1. Through Microsoft Services (Microsoft Multi-factor Authentication).

Note:These directions are for instances when you know your current password. If you have forgotten your password, you will need to  reset your password .

Environment

OHIO University Account , OR Microsoft Azure MFA

Changing Your Password with Account.ohio.edu

  1. Go to account.ohio.edu .

  2. Select Manage Accountunder Existing User.

  3. Select the CHANGE PASSWORDoption under Manage Account.

  4. You'll be prompted to create a new password and confirm your new password. Select  Saveonce all fields are complete.

  5. Gather all of your devices (phone, tablet, laptop, etc.), and update your saved passwords on each device.

Troubleshooting

  • If you forget to update the stored password on a particular device, that device could temporarily lose access to the OHIO network and related services.

  • If are unable to access your account after changing your password, turn off all devices that have your password stored, wait 15-20 minutes, then try again.

  • Because it can be difficult to predict how individual mobile devices will react to a password change, you may wish to make your change during  regular Service Desk hours , in case you need assistance. Although lockouts are rare, it is a good idea to allow a time cushion between any password change and your next class or appointment.

Outcome:You should now have changed your password via account.ohio.edu and updated all devices.

Changing Your Password with Microsoft Azure MFA

Change your password from the app:

  1. Open your Authenticator app.

  2. Select the right arrow (>) on the account for which you want to change your password.

  3. Select  Change password >.

  4. A browser window will open and prompt you to enter your old password, create a new password, and confirm your new password. Select  Submit once all fields are complete.

Outcome:Your OHIO password is now changed.

Change your password from myaccount.microsoft.com:

  1. Go to  myaccount.microsoft.com and single sign-on with your OHIO email and password.

  2. Select Security Info.

  3. Select Changefor your Password.

  4. You'll be prompted to create a new password and confirm your new password. Select  Submit once all fields are complete.

Outcome:Your OHIO password is now changed.
