Authenticating with a one-time password code on Azure MFA

Description

If you are unable to connect to Wi-Fi or a mobile network on your phone, you can use a one-time password code on the Microsoft Authenticator app to authenticate. Authenticating this way does not require your phone to be connected to a network.  

Environment

Phone with Microsoft Authenticator app installed 

PC, Mac 

Solution 

  1. Any online application requiring your OHIO email and password (Catmail, Blackboard, Canvas, etc.) will present you with a single sign-on screen.  

  1. Enter your OHIO email and password.  

  1. If prompted to authenticate, select I can’t use my Microsoft Authenticator app right now.

  1. In the Verify your identity options, select Use a verification code. 

  1. On your phone, open the Microsoft Authenticator app. 

  1. In your smartphone’s Authenticator app, select your Ohio University account from the main screen.  

  1. In the Authenticator app, under one-time password code, you’ll see a six-digit code.

  1. Enter this six-digit code into the single sign-on screen and select the verifybutton. 

Outcome:You have successfully authenticated with a one-time password code. You should now be able to access the online service.
