Campus-wide Class Cancellation and Announcement Procedures
When OHIO Chillicothe classes are canceled campus-wide due to severe winter weather or other exceptional situations, an official announcement will be posted on the OHIO Chillicothe homepage as well as on the "OHIO Alert Information" page. Announcements will also be texted to registered OHIO accounts as quickly as the circumstances allow.
To register your OHIO account, and receive the notifications, you need to ensure your contact information is entered correctly with Ohio University. By updating your information, you will ensure that you receive important information on critical incidents and campus emergencies that can affect your safety. For instructions for updating your contact information and receiving notifications:
A two-hour delay will mean classes that start before 10 a.m. are canceled.
Winter weather announcements will generally be made by 6:30 a.m. for morning classes (starting before noon) and two-hour delays, 10:30 a.m. for afternoon classes (starting from noon to 5 p.m.), and 3:30 p.m. for evening classes (starting after 5 p.m.).
Special events are also automatically canceled during campus-wide cancellations or closings.
The media venues listed below will also be asked to announce campus-wide class cancellation information. The correctness of their broadcasts cannot be guaranteed and should be double-checked against the OHIO Chillicothe homepage and/or the campus phone message system when possible.
Since road conditions may vary substantially around the area, students should use their own judgment about the commute when their classes are not canceled. Student safety is always our first concern. Missed classwork must be made up in consultation with the professor. Consulting with your professor before your absence is highly recommended.
