Session Description

Join CTLA and OID staff for a re-envisioned approach to course design that 1) introduces or reinforces a backward design foundation, focusing on expected student learning outcomes and skills acquisition; 2) elevates instructional strategies and learning sciences that support learners in meeting challenges specific to your course and your discipline; and 3) promotes metacognition and student success mindsets. Most important, OHIO’s CDI is an opportunity to set aside time to concentrate on one course and its activities and the reason instructors entered this profession to begin with – finding the excitement and joy in teaching.

THE FOCUS OF THIS CDI IS TO RE-ENVISION OR DESIGN A FULLY ONLINE COURSE.

Learning Outcomes

Following this session, participants will

  • Explore and reconnect with the reasons why they chose to teach.
  • Write or refine course goals or learning outcomes and align activities and assessments.
  • Identify “disciplinary bottlenecks” in their courses and instructional strategies to meet the challenges.
  • Identify strategies for supporting student success based on learning sciences and research on metacognition/mindsets.
  • Build several modules of the course in a learning management system template promoting strong organizational and engagement strategies.

Participants will meet from 9 a.m. to noon, Monday, Dec. 11, to Friday, Dec. 15.  This is the perfect opportunity to re-envision a spring semester course.
