I was visiting Miura professor April-June 2000. I was impressed by the hospitality given to me. For lodging they provided me with a three-bedroom apartment across from the Nagoya university and a car for transportation. I was honored at the university by a tea ceremony that was attended by Dr. Yamada and Professor Miyazima. Every Saturday Dr. Yamada would pick me up for sightseeing, lunch, or theater. When my wife Dr. Manjulika Koshal joined me in late May, Dr. Yamada invited us to his house for a tea ceremony and dinner. As I know, normally, Japanese do not invite a guest to their house but entertain outside. It was a great honor to spend time with Dr. Yamada and to know more about Japanese culture. It was also great that out-of-town sightseeing’s were conducted by Dr. Miyazima and Yuko. They made sure to translate the Japanese narration into English for our understanding.
I not only gave three public lectures but also collaborated on research with Chubu faculty that resulted in several publications. I was also given opportunity to visit a few classes and interact with students.
Chubu university treats their visiting professors from Ohio University as VIPs.
