The Epsilon-Beta chapter of Phi Alpha Theta seeks to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of knowledge and ideas among historians. The organization is open to all students with an interest in history who meet the following requirements:
- At least 12 hours in History
- 3.1 GPA or higher in History
- An overall GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Completed application form
There is also a one-time initiation fee of $50 that includes lifetime membership in Phi Alpha Theta and four issues of the society's journal, The Historian .
Conferences, Prizes & Scholarships: Members of Phi Alpha Theta enjoy the possibility of participating in regional conferences, organized by individual chapters, and the biennial national convention. They qualify to apply to different prizes and awards, such as cash prizes for best papers and dissertations, and undergraduate and graduate scholarships. In the past four years, Ohio University chapter members have attended two biennial national conventions and several regional conferences, and twice received the Lynn W. Turner Prize of $500 for the best paper by an undergraduate student member of Phi Alpha.
