Date Due

Proposal Preparation
Please refer to the Proposal Preparation Guide for details on the formatting and contents of the proposal.
Use of humans and animals as test subjects and Institutional Biosafety
Regardless of the nature of the project, if human subjects are involved, the primary investigator must have approval from the Office of Research Compliance for the Institutional Review Board (IRB). For animals used in research, approval from the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) is required. In addition, where appropriate, the research mentor must have a current and approved institutional biosafety (IBC) plan. You may apply for the Gary S. Neiman Graduate Research Scholarship Award Fund while these approvals are pending, but you must not begin the research project until all approvals are received.
Funding
A faculty committee will review grant proposals, will determine the relative scientific merit of the proposals, and will recommend a final recipient to the dean of the college.
Budget
A complete budget must be included to help demonstrate how the funds will be utilized and to establish how the award might help solidify the completion of the project. If the applicant has obtained additional funding, the source and amount should be identified. If proposals have been submitted, but are in review, these should be identified as well. The award amount requested may be adjusted. It is the principal investigator and faculty mentor’s responsibility to spend their funds directly on items identified in the budget. Funds must be spent by April 30, 2026. No extensions will be granted.
Final Report
If awarded, each principal investigator is required to submit a final report on how the award was utilized. The report should be submitted no later than May 1, 2026, or at the end of the project, whichever comes first. The final report will include the following:
- How the funds were spent.
- Status of the project and its outcomes.
- Plan for dissemination of results.
This report will be provided to Dr. Gary S. Neiman.
