About the Athletic Training Department: History & Mission

Ohio University's Department of Athletic Training offers both a professional program, which began in 1972, and a master's degree program, which started in 1977. The long and storied history of athletic training at Ohio University has produced over 1,000 alumni. The experiences students gain while at Ohio University impact their professional careers and make our graduates ready to practice on day one.

Mission

The Ohio University Athletic Training program centralizes our students’ intellectual, professional and personal development through mentored education and service to the campus and community. With research as its focus, the Ohio University Athletic Training program instills evidence-based clinical practice with an emphasis on medically underserved and emerging practice settings.

OHIO's program promotes high practice standards by providing quality classroom and clinical education experiences. The program also encourages student attendance at professional meetings and involvement with state, district, and national athletic training organizations.

Faculty

The athletic training faculty at Ohio University has over 100 combined years in the teaching and practice of athletic training. Faculty experiences range from high school, college, and performing arts settings to laboratory and practice-based research. Additionally, all our faculty members serve several professional athletic training organizations. These faculty experiences provide students with a robust classroom experience.

Facilities

The Ohio University Athletic Training Department has state-of-the-art learning spaces including a versatile classroom and a laboratory space that converts to a functioning clinic in the afternoon. Our classrooms are equipped with advanced technology that allows us to connect with students and speakers on other campuses and provide engaging learning experiences.
