Overview

Through a balanced online and in-class instructional approach, the Master’s in Educational Leadership is a 30-credit program completed over three semesters. The program prepares students to be leaders in education and related fields such as P-12 school districts, government agencies, foundations, and non-profit organizations. The courses align with National Educational Leadership Preparation (NELP) standards.  Other graduates enter doctoral programs in leadership and related fields. The program format is a cohort model that meets on Saturdays. New cohorts begin each summer (applications due April 15) or fall (applications due July 30) at the Athens and various regional campuses. 

Admissions Requirements

  • Online application: Degree program code ME5028 (Athens) or ME5029 (Regional)
  • Transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended for bachelor’s and master’s education with an overall minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 scale (unless from Ohio University) 
  • Three letters of professional recommendation that describe the academic skills and professional potential of the applicant   
  • Statement of purpose (2-4 pages, double-spaced) to assess the applicant’s writing skills, career commitment, leadership potential, and professional goals
  • Current résumé/CV is preferred but not required

International Students Requirements

  • International students seeking an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership must apply to the Athens-based cohort, ME5028.
  • The Graduate College application deadlines for international students are December 1 for Summer and February 1 for Fall.
  • The I-20 document deadlines are April 3 for Summer and May 15 for Fall .
  • The application deadlines US citizens/permanent residents are April 1 for Summer and August 1 for Fall.
