Frequently Asked Questions

What is a club sport?

Club Sports allow students to get together regularly to learn a new sport, or continue playing a sport they love. All 33 of Ohio University’s Club Sports are student-run organizations, who have varied practice and competition schedules. Read about individual Club Sport and its level of Competition to understand what skills and experience are required. Most Club Sports compete against other universities and are members of conferences or leagues. Some host events on campus but many also travel to compete. Club Sports may charge membership dues, determined by each individual club.

To inquire about details regarding a specific club, please reference contacts within our  Club Listing  page. For questions or to request accommodations within the Club Sports program, contact  clubsports@ohio.edu  or call 740.593.9927

In addition to club sports, Ohio University offers Intramural Sports.  Intramural Sports  provide students an opportunity to participate in a variety of sports on campus with or against other students from Ohio University, often requiring a lower level of competition or skill compared to similar Club Sports.

How do I join a club sport?

Some of our club sports teams require tryouts, but many are always accepting members. For more information or to request accommodations, reach out to the contact listed on the  Club Listing  page.

How do I create a new team?

To create a new club sport you must first get 6 people interested in being a part of the team and willing to assist on the leadership team in some capacity. Then send our office (Alex G, Alex Z, and/or the club sports email) an email detailing what the club is and who is on it. From there, our office will help move along the team creation process including writing a constitution, scheduling practice spaces and more!
