Mission, Vision, and Purpose

Brigadier General James M. Abraham and Colonel Arlene F. Greenfield Veterans and Military Student Services Center

Our Mission Statement

Support and advocate for veterans and military-affiliated students by implementing best practices while providing personalized services to students in their transition and pursuit of intellectual and personal development.

Our Vision Statement

To be the premier resource for military and VA education services for all veterans, military-affiliated students and their families, as well as faculty and staff. The Veterans and Military Student Services Center will accomplish this by:

  • Easing the transition from military service to student life;
  • Being subject matter experts in all aspects of GI Bill® benefits, VA procedures, and academic advising;
  • Continuously improving processes and services;
  • Partnering with university colleagues to provide the resources necessary for our veteran and military-affiliated students to be academically successful; and
  • Raising awareness of veterans’ contributions and issues among university and local communities.

At Ohio University, we recognize and value the contributions that you—our veterans, dependents, and military personnel—make to our campus community in your role as students, faculty, staff, and members of the Ohio university community. We recognize and honor the sacrifices you have made through your service to our country and appreciate the leadership and broad experiences you bring to OHIO University.

The purpose of Ohio University’s Veteran and Military Student Services Center is to provide, facilitate and coordinate programs and services as effectively as possible for you and your family members. We strive to assist you in making a successful transition to the Ohio University community and support you through your academic careers. The Director serves as the central point of contact for students with a dedicated network of OHIO University Veterans Points of Contact serving as additional resources.

For several years, Ohio University has worked to improve and expand services for student veterans, dependents, and military personnel. It is an honor to be recognized as a Proud Military Supporter, a 2021 Best for Vets Institution, and signators to the 8 Keys to Veterans Success list of colleges and universities committed to assisting veterans with transitioning to higher education, completing their college degree, and obtaining career-ready skills. However, we are committed to continual improvement.

If you have questions about being an OHIO University student, or suggestions about how we can better serve you, please contact us at 740.566.VETS (8387) or  veteranscenter@ohio.edu .
