Federal Grants

- Pell Grants
Pell grants usually are awarded only to undergraduate students who display exceptional financial need and have not earned a bachelor's, graduate, or professional degree. - TEACH Grants
TEACH grants offers eligible students funding in exchange for their commitment to teach following the completion of their degrees.

- CIS Boundless Scholarship
The Boundless Scholarship provides support for any Center for International Studies undergraduate or graduate students (majors, minors, certificates as well as Global Leadership Center students) pursuing a variety of study away experiences, including domestic and international study away programs, student exchanges, internships, volunteer opportunities and research. - OHIO Excellence Award
The OHIO Excellence Award is open to first-year students who are new to the Athens campus of Ohio University in fall 2021 are eligible for consideration based on academic achievement, financial need, and individual contributions to the incoming class. - Cutler Scholars
Cutler Scholars are merit-based scholarships funded by generous gifts from forward-thinking individuals who understand that investing in education is investing in the future. - Office of Nationally Competitive Awards (ONCA)

Office of Nationally Competitive Awards
ONCA helps students currently enrolled in an undergraduate program apply for prestigious, national awards. This awards include the following.
- Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program
The Gilman Scholarship provides funding for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving a federal Pell Grant to study abroad. - Critical Language Scholarship
The Critical Languages Scholarship provides full funding for students to experience cultural immersion and foreign language programs overseas. - David L. Boren Scholarship for International Study
The Boren Scholarship provides funding for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving a federal Pell Grant to study abroad. - Fulbright U.S. Student Program
Fulbright provides grants for individually designed study/research projects or English Teaching Assistantships.

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is a summer study abroad opportunity for American college and university students to learn languages essential to America’s engagement with the world. Languages include: Arabic, Azerbaijani, Bangla, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Swahili, Turkish, Urdu. - Boren Awards
Boren Scholars and Fellows study a wide range of critical languages, including Arabic, Chinese, Portuguese, and Swahili. Boren Awards are available to students of all proficiency levels who are committed to enhancing their skills. Boren Scholars and Fellows from diverse fields of study immerse themselves in the cultures in world regions underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. Boren Awards alumni are committed to public service, working in positions critical to U.S. national security throughout the Federal Government, including the Departments of State, Defense, and Homeland Security, and USAID. - Indiana University Language Workshop
The Language Workshop is the most diverse program of its kind in the United States, offering intensive study in over 25 languages, at a variety of skill levels. - Southeast Asian Studies Summer Institute (SEASSI)
SEASSI is an eight-week intensive language training program for undergraduates, graduate students and professionals. It has been held since 1983 and hosted by UW-Madison in 1994-1995 and then since 2000. Instruction is offered for academic credit in eight languages at the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year levels. Languages include: Burmese, Filipino, Hmong, Indonesian, Javanese, Khmer, Lao, Thai, Vietnamese. - Southeast Asian Language Council
The Southeast Asian Language Council (SEALC) is a national organization that promotes and coordinates activities in the field of SE Asian language teaching by working with national organizations such as the National Resource Centers for Southeast Asian Studies, the Council of Teachers of Southeast Asian Languages (COTSEAL), the Southeast Asian Summer Studies Institute (SEASSI), and Southeast Asian language-specific organizations. SEALC strives to improve SE Asian language teaching programs by supporting and coordinating language-related efforts to improve the quality and accessibility of SE Asian language instruction, building organizational linkages, and in so doing creating the next generation of well-trained teachers with improved curricular resources.
