Dr. Grant Weinandy  and her daughter attended the 25th International Center for Responsible Gaming (ICRG) conference in Las Vegas at the start of October. In a talk with Dr. Jim Whelan, a Professor at the University of Memphis and Director of the Tennessee Institute for Gambling Education and Research, she spoke about barriers to help-seeking and ways to improve help-seeking among gamblers. In particular, she talked about results from her recently published article on anticipated motives. She highlighted the need to improve awareness of what problematic gambling looks like, particularly awareness of spending. Dr. Whelan followed this up by talking about recent work in his Gambling Clinic and using motivational letters to improve help-seeking.
