Program Overview
The B.A. degree program provides a sound science background along with emphasis on the humanities, social sciences and language. The program is for those students who do not plan on pursuing a graduate degree in chemistry, but who wish to pursue a career that will incorporate their background in chemistry, such as a laboratory setting, K-12 education (with additional credentialing), law, etc.
Due to changes in standards for teacher licensure in the State of Ohio, the current program in chemistry is subject to change. Students who are interested in becoming licensed to teach chemistry at the secondary level should contact the Office of Student Services in the Patton College of Education.
Careers and Graduate School
Students with a B.A. in chemistry can go on to a wide range of higher education and career opportunities such as laboratory work, K-12 education (with additional credentialing), business, marketing, law, etc.
While students completing the requirements for the B.S. degree with a major in chemistry are eligible for professional status in the American Chemical Society, completion of a B.A. degree in chemistry does not qualify a student for certification.

Change to Program Policy:Students wishing to change or add a chemistry major or minor at Ohio University should go to the Office of Undergraduate Advising & Student Affairs in the College of Arts & Sciences in Gordy 155.
