Chapters and Councils

The Panhellenic Council, Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, and Multicultural Greek Council all serve a unique role in the sorority and fraternity community at Ohio University. These governing bodies determine policies, procedures, rules, and standards for the sorority and fraternity chapters that fall under their purview. There are currently four governing councils at OU.

Panhellenic Council (PC) is the governing body for ten member sororities belonging to the umbrella organization – the National Panhellenic Conference (NPC). The executive board of CPC is made up of elected representatives from the member organizations to oversee the community recruitment process, academic programs, educational initiatives, judicial affairs, finances, and other programming.

Interfraternity Council (IFC) is the governing body for nine member fraternities. The executive board of the IFC is made up of elected representatives from the member organizations to oversee academics, recruitment, finances, service, and programming. A number of our IFC groups belong to a larger governing trade association, the North American Interfraternity Conference (NIC).

National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC) is the governing body for nine historically black Greek-letter organizations. At Ohio University, there are currently 7 NPHC organizations (4 fraternities and 3 sororities). Affiliated members are elected to the NPHC executive board to oversee collaboration, educational programming service projects, and social activities.

Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) currently represents 2-member organizations but is looking to expand. Its goal is to empower members through philanthropic work and servant-based leadership. Additionally, opportunities for members include educational programming around social justice, cultural competency, member development, academic success, and social development.

Chapters

In order for a fraternity or sorority to operate at Ohio, they must be recognized as an affiliate group of their inter/national sorority or fraternity, otherwise known as a chapter. Ohio sororities and fraternities also maintain recognition with the University by upholding the chapter standing for sorority and fraternity chapters.
